Uganda Telecom’s (UTL) imminent death was predicted many months back. Like a patient with a terminal illness, this once landmark government parastatal that controlled 100% of the telecommunication business in Uganda before the liberalisation of the sector was crawling like a wounded combatant. For those old enough, we could hardly believe that this is the same UTL whose 51% shareholding was sold to UCOM in the year 2000 for US$ 33 Million. However, what followed after the acquisition is largely to blame for the current state of the company.

In a separate post, I did voice the frustrations of Uganda Telecom after learning that there was a plan to revamp the company by the Government of Uganda. From a nationalistic perspective though, I do believe that we need to have a Government run and supported Telco and reasons for that are numerous ranging from security all the way…

Transformation from student to Adult

I now believe we stop being students in high school/ Secondary school. Secondary school is uptight, that one only has time to consume knowledge and reproduce it in an exam(Ugandan education system). However when one enters an institution of higher learning, like a campus, most of the choices are made exactly by him or her, and one of those choices “choosing between planning for the future, how strategic you want your life to be, and sitting by and letting things play along, till you graduate”. It really starts that early, don’t believe me, wait till you have graduate, you might have have lots of words of wisdom just like I have now.

Take charge now. Too much free time at campus to be sleeping and watching endless series ONLY. Add one or two productive to-dos like, attending meet ups involving members of your professional path(Its not about the talk, but mostly networking, You will need many correspondences when your ready to look for a job)

This is the opening thread to my new undertaking. Since my head has been clouded with this idea…I need to keep it in check… protect it before other students get a hold of it. It’s not being mean…but I have to be discrete enough so that it remains a unique thing.

At first, I blew it in anyone’s face for approval…now if only I had kept it in check

Word of Day: Engaged

The word is engaged. What does it mean. Literally I mostly hear it being used as a synonym for occupied. 

• Today, while in the wash rooms, I noticed on the toilet doors, the word engaged. one is able to read it fully when someone is in the toilet…. taking a shit or dump… whatever they do there…u can’t tell, but the best guesses are the ones I’ve highlighted. 
• 
• But then again, when a man proposes to a woman, they become engaged. 
• Hypothetically speaking, when ur in the toilet…you enclose yourself and thus have occupied it…so it’s engaged. And no one else can enter in.
• Connecting that to dating, when your boyfriend and girlfriend…yes your dating but there’s no enclosure stating that no one else can date her, that she’s occupied. She can date other guys. So dating or having a boyfriend or girlfriend for….a long time…is really an open relationship, it’s not closed or an engagement .
• It’s ironic though, because when you compare the two instances, while in the toilet, you don’t spend long, your engaged inside, do your business, and then come out. Then another person enters in…and does whatever kind of shit in there and comes out. 
• When a man decides to get engaged, the term fiancee comes in, then before long.. marriage happens..and that’s like being in the toilet forever.

Marriage is like permanent engagement in the toilet, that means you never out; to eat, do other stuff, have to smell ur shut for the rest of your life, and you also block other people from entering. 

• Ok that was silly thinking…but it kinda makes sense.😄
